The brief was to create a high-quality contemporary property that offered the comfort, efficiency and convenience of a modern home while still feeling entirely appropriate within its coastal surroundings.

The completed property combines natural stone and brick detailing, a traditional pitched roofline and generous modern glazing to create a home with a strong sense of place, quality and permanence.
The Project
A Bespoke New-Build Home on the Cornish Coast
This was a substantial residential construction project requiring careful coordination from the earliest stages of the build through to external finishing and landscaping.
The property’s coastal position played an important role in almost every element of the project.
Its orientation, glazing, materials and external spaces were all considered in relation to the surrounding landscape and views.
Rather than simply placing a conventional new-build home on an exceptional plot, the objective was to create a property specifically suited to its location.
The result is a spacious family home that takes full advantage of the Cornish setting while remaining practical, comfortable and durable enough for everyday living throughout the year.
The Brief
The client wanted a home that combined three important qualities:
Contemporary living. Traditional character. Long-term performance.
The architecture needed to feel modern without appearing out of place within the surrounding coastal landscape.
Internally, the property needed to provide generous family accommodation and plenty of natural light.
Externally, it needed to offer practical parking, a substantial double garage and landscaped gardens while making the most of the site’s views.
Material quality was particularly important.
The home needed an exterior that would continue to look appropriate for many years while also responding effectively to the more demanding conditions associated with coastal construction.
Architecture That Responds to Its Setting
Contemporary Design with Traditional Cornish Character
One of the defining features of the project is the balance between traditional and contemporary architecture.
Natural stone and carefully selected brick detailing provide warmth and texture to the elevations.
A traditional pitched roofline gives the property a sense of permanence and helps it sit comfortably within the wider Cornish landscape.
These more traditional architectural elements are contrasted with generous areas of contemporary glazing.
Large windows introduce natural light throughout the property and create a strong connection between the internal living spaces and the surrounding countryside and coastline.
The combination creates a property that feels modern without becoming overly architectural or disconnected from its location.
It is a home designed specifically for its surroundings rather than a standard property placed within them.
